Graduating this spring, Moira Conley is a senior doubling in Music and Environment and Society. Moira has had many diverse experiences during her time at FSU, such as FSU’s Air Force ROTC, Music Board of Advisors, Silver Wings, and Daughters of American Revolution. Although her lifestyle is busy, Conley expresses it has given her great enjoyment at FSU, saying, “I love being able to pursue multiple passions. Professors have encouraged me to pursue my various passions, and even pursue an Honors in the Major thesis”.
While at FSU, Conley has fully immersed herself within the university’s military and ROTC programs, earning her greatest accomplishments while experiencing her greatest challenges. Conley reflects on her most notable achievement as a Foxtrot Flight Commander in Spring 2019, recalling “This was one of the most rewarding leadership experiences where I was thrown headfirst into training ten freshmen to understand the Air Force standards and develop their leadership skills”. Though Conley has experienced great success in the Air Force ROTC program, she experienced her greatest hurdle during her second semester in the program. Noting, “Entering the program as a sophomore, the challenge was already a step up, because everyone else knew how to march and call commands. That semester I was also taking one of the busiest course loads in my college career and really had to time manage and stay optimistic to push through”.
As a natural leader, Conley has made a significant impact on FSU’s campus and within the ROTC community. Her resilience and persistence are skills highlighted in her accomplishments and will take her far in the pursuit of her passions. As she prepares for the end of her college career, she plans “to commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force and enter the flying community as a Combat System Officer”.
